چکیده

Bivalent cations play a lot of roles in human brain. Calcium, magnesium zinc ,copper and other cations are involved in normal functions of the brain .The most important mechanisms of action for cations are : modulation of the presynaptic release of some neuromediators , influence on neuronal ionic channels, induction of changes in some receptors activity, influence on the transporters of neuromediators. The disbalance in intracellular or extra cellular concentrations of brain cations are observed in neurological and psychiatric diseases (major depression, schizophrenia, heroine addiction, neurodegenerative diseases, convulsive disorders). The bipolar disorder( BP ) is a major public health problem. The economic cost is high and the patients have a high risk of suicide( Antelman et al. 1998) BD also called manic-depressive psychosis is a relative frecvent psychiatric ill. The pathogenic mechanism of the development of BD is unknown yet. The aetiopathogenesis of BD will be better elucidated in the future by experimental and clinical studies.

Lithium - therapeutic tool endowed with multiple beneficiary effects caused by multiple mechanisms.

Mood disorders are relatively common serious human diseases for which there is often no ideal pharmacotherapy. Basic characteristic of these diseases is affective disorder shifting the mood of the patient to depression (together with anxiety or not) or towards to euphoria. Available drugs are usually divided into two groups - mood stabilizers, which are used primarily to treat bipolar disorder,...

The effect of some mono and bivalent metal cations on the individual hydrogen bond energies in A−T and G−C base pairs

The effect of interactions of various Ia and IIa cations with two positions of the adenine-thymine (A−T) and guanine-cytosine (G−C) base pairs on the geometries and individual hydrogen bond (HB) energies have been investigated by using the atoms in molecules (AIM) method at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory. The cations that possess higher charge/radius (q/rad) ratio make higher changes o...

Interaction of cations with phosphate uptake by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Effects of surface potential.

The effect of bivalent cations on phosphate uptake by Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. Phosphate uptake via the Na+-dependent transport system at pH 7.2 is stimulated by bivalent cations. The apparent affinity of phosphate for the transport mechanism is increased, but the apparent affinity for Na+ is decreased. Uptake of phosphate via the Na+-independent transport system is accompanie...

Research on the Variation of Some Bivalent Cations in Patients with Diseases of the Oral Cavity

The concentration of bivalent cations affects a large number of processes that occur in the oro-maxillary region. A connection has been established between chronic periodontitis, on one side, and the salivary concentration of calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper and the concentration of magnesium in blood, on the other. Patients with suppurations on oro-maxillo-facial area show decreased blood c...

The opposite effect of bivalent cations on cytochrome b5 reduction by NADH:cytochrome b5 reductase and NADPH:cytochrome c reductase.

The effects of bivalent cations on cytochrome b5 reduction by NADH:cytochrome b5 reductase and NADPH:cytochrome c reductase were studied with the proteinase-solubilized enzymes. Cytochrome b5 reduction by NADH:cytochrome b5 reductase was strongly inhibited by CaCl2 or MgCl2. When 1.2 microM-cytochrome b5 was used, the concentrations of CaCl2 and MgCl2 required for 50% inhibition (I50) were 8 an...
